Trouble With The Law

handcuffs

This is going to be a hard one to write because there was so much dialogue and I can't remember everything that was said. Hopefully I can get the gist of it understandable:

I go and visit my Dad every Tuesday evening with the kids. Last week, I came home and Tony and Jason were hanging out together-typical Tuesday. We got the kids to bed and were sitting around, chatting and enjoying the fresh air from having the windows open when the dogs started barking.
I looked outside and saw two police officers walking up to our house, stopping to shine a flashlight in the Explorer. I figured they were coming to ask us if we had seen or heard anything suspicious, since you know, it's not really a good thing when the Police are around. Anyway, we answer the door and they said they had received a call that someone had pulled into our driveway and a Hispanic man got a gun out of his vehicle and was yelling at the people in the car while threatening them with the gun.
Confused, I told them that our neighbors are Hispanic and that they sometimes used our driveway to turn around, etc. They said, "Your neighbors are Hispanic?!" "Yes." "Have you ever told them to stop?" "No." "Do you have any problems with them?" "No, we're on good terms." I finally ask what time this all happened, and they said it had been 40 minutes - 1 hour prior to them showing up. I told them that I had been home that whole time, and if there was any kind of altercation that we would have heard it because the windows were open.
The officers were looking really confused - perplexed - befuddled, even. "But they said it was the 2nd house in, with a white van in the driveway." Jason replies, "Oh that's my cousin's van" The officer looks past Jason at Tony standing behind him, and says, "And I see he is of Hispanic descent, somewhat."

Oh.no.

They think Tony did it!

What?!

They told him that if he did it, that he wasn't in trouble (haha) but that they just wanted to know. If he didn't do it, that was fine and they would move on to other important things.

Let me just clarify that we live in a pretty quiet neighborhood, and Tony has a perfect record. He's totally kid-friendly and all of that.

Anyway.

Tony explained that it was his Grandma's(!) van, etc. They took his information and one of them even patted him down while the other one searched the van. Guess what? No gun!

The officers were really nice throughout the whole thing, and it was obvious by all of our reactions (and the Barbies left on the couch by the girls, and the glasses of water we all had, as opposed to you know, whiskey and beer) that we had no idea what they were talking about.
We assume it was a prank by someone, since there were so many coincidences (which is also probably the only reason why the officers checked in out as far as they did) but we have no idea who would have done that, especially to Tony--especially when it could have got him into trouble.
We all look back and laugh now, but that is officially the weirdest thing that's ever happened around here.

Moral of the story: If a big Hispanic looking guy is driving his Grandma's Uplander, he's probably harmless. =)

*I did so well for two whole weeks. I posted alll the time...and then Jaxon had shots and it's been yucky ever since. I'm going to try to catch up again. =)

Under the Weather

IMG_4197_3115
All three of the kids have been a little bit under the weather, with what I'm hoping to be the last of the season's colds.

More updates to come soon!

Pimp Your Blog!

I've been asked a few times how to do different customizations on Blogger. I'm no expert--far from it, in fact. I just happen to know some photographers who share websites with me and I've learned what I know from that.

So, here are a few things that might help:

http://sjhblogdesign.blogspot.com/

This site is where I learned how to post the backgrounds and other papers you see on my blog. It seems overwhelming and a little bit tricky at first, but if you have time, it's a lot of fun. It's a lot of trial and error at first, so make sure you preview each change as you go. That way, when you have to go back and fix something, you know which one to fix.
This has you set your blog up with the Minima blog template, but I use Minima Lefty Stretch because of the big pictures I post on here. They won't fit with the normal Minima template...that, or I haven't figured that one out. Good possibility. If you do choose to do the Minima Lefty Stretch, you'll have to tinker with the margins, etc in order to get everything to fit correctly. Oh, and the header size I use is 900x300. I make those in Photoshop, but there are other programs available.
I also changed the font on my blog through this website, and there are several other tutorials on here for various things.

I haven't tried this one out yet, but am planning to for something a little different. It seems like other than the designing part, this one would be easier because you aren't dealing with all of that html. The site that she links to seems to be a potential jackpot in digital scrapbooking, but it is sometimes difficult to find the file to download unless it's been recently posted. A lot of times the links to download on the designers' sites are only good for a short amount of time, so going back in the archive of freebies isn't always helpful! Just something to watch for! =)

A note about downloading digital scrap files: They'll most likely be a .zip file. If you haven't used compressed files before, you'll need software to "unzip" them. I use Universal Extractor. It's been the easiest for me to use, and it's free. =)

How to make the pictures big:

BloggerTUTThis is probably hard to read on here, so I'll try and explain it, but I'm very visual...so if it doesn't makes sense, e-mail me and I'll send the picture to you. =)
When you upload a picture, you see all of that html nonsense. A few rows down, you see this:
cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 296px; " Delete all of that but the ". On the next row or so down, you will see s400 followed by a / and more html. Change the 400 to 800. No other # value that I know of will work.

I think that's it for now. Feel free to ask any questions and I'll try my best to help figure things out, but I can't make any promises. Like I said, I'm no expert. I just read and plug things in where I'm told to. =)

National Day of Remembrance

I like to blog about happy things. I like to share pictures and stories of silly and funny things. The news is full of heartbreaking stories, and truth be told, I really don't keep up with them because sometimes it's just too much...

Today is the National Day of Remembrance for pregnancy and infant loss. As much as I enjoy light-hearted posts, I feel like this should be recognized. If you haven't lost a child, I'm sure you know someone who has. I myself have never experienced the loss of a child. My baby brother went to be with Jesus at 20 weeks gestation, and I still think of him very often. There are also several women in my family and circle of friends who have had miscarriages and stillbirths.

On one of my favorite blogs that I linked to in a previous post (Bring the Rain), she asked women who have lost a baby regardless of "weeks" since no matter how small the baby is it is still a baby to leave a comment so that we could all come together to pray for them and remember their babies today. The last time I checked, there were almost 1,000 comments. I read through the first page and it was so heartbreaking. The grief that is there is an overwhelming reminder of how blessed I am. I am so very grateful to God for my babies.

If you have lost a baby, please know that you are being prayed for today and that your precious baby or babies are not forgotten. There is a healing that can only be found in God and I encourage you to cry out to Him and allow yourself to grieve if you need to, regardless of how long it has been since you lost your little one. You may also want to check out Bring the Rain. You're definitely not alone.

Here is a quote also from the blog I've been mentioning that really moved me:

“Jacob, where do you find the strength to carry on in life?”

“Life is often heavy only because we attempt to carry it,” said Jacob. “But I do find a strength in the ashes.”

“In the ashes?” asked Mr. Gold.

“Yes,” said Jacob, with a confirmation that seemed to have traveled a great distance.

“You see, Mr. Gold, each of us is alone. Each of us is in the great darkness of our ignorance. And, each of us is on a journey.

“In the process of our journey, we must bend to build a fire for light, and warmth, and food.

“But when our fingers tear at the ground, hoping to find the coals of another’s fire, what we often find is the ashes.

“And, in those ashes, which will not give us light or warmth, there may be sadness, but there is also testimony.

“Because these ashes tell is that somebody else has been in the night, somebody else has bent to build a fire, and somebody else has carried on.

“And that can be enough, sometimes.”

Tour for the National September 11th Memorial & Museum

Jason was home today, so we decided to go check out the September 11th Memorial that has come through town. The tour consists of several picture storyboards with quotes from various witnesses, an 8.5 minute film, artifacts from the site, and a place to sign a steel beam that will be used in the construction of the memorial on Ground Zero. The pictures and quotes really took us back to where we were that day, and the video was sobering. I e-mailed the video to our e-mail address from the site, but it hasn't come through yet. If it does, I will edit it in here later. The exhibit is at the Kennedy Plaza. It closes at 6 tonight, but if you get a chance, you should check it out. It's definitely worth it.

Here is the site: www.national911memorial.org

Sorry, they didn't let us take pictures.

**I was able to get ahold of them to send me the video. If you have a few minutes, you should check it out** http://www.national911memorial.org/ecard_film
