*~*{creating} recap! *~*

 i've really been getting my mojo back, 

thanks to some supplements my friend jess' fiance recommended!

(supplement giant shout out!)

so.

i've been sewing, mod podging, and trying out my new silhouette:

first, i made a free handed pattern for a burp cloth set for my cousin kristin,

and her brand new baby girl, lexiann:

i added a 40x40 cotton interlock fabric, finished off the edges and appliqued some matching hearts

to make a large receiving blanket.

to package it all up,

i mod podged some wrapping paper onto a shoe box, 

made a quilted note card to complete the set, and voila! 

cuteness!

it's been awhile since i made girl stuff.

it was a lot of fun!

next, i decided that kyle and i needed bags 

to put our stuff in while we dance away the jiggle, so i followed this tutorial

and sewed some hobo sacks for us.

 i made them bigger than the tutorial says, and if i did it over again, 

i probably would have made them even larger!

my girls really like them and i have some extra fabric

that i used on their easter outfits last year,

so they may be getting smaller bags (w/ fringe) for v-day.

we'll see what time allows, as we're b-day planning right now, too!

finally, i tried out my new silhouette that i bought with left over christmas money:

i started off simple, and made a thank you card,

but i have plans in my head for vinyl cut outs for the wall, 

freezer paper stenciling, and all kinds of things!

(easter) sunday best

i spent a few afternoons this last week sewing up some easter outfits for the girls.

i had a blast doing it!

 

i made the skirts using this tutorial

headbands using this one

and i kind of made the shirts up using a tutorial for refashioning boxy tees into fitted ones and then one for making cap sleeves. i came up with the little chick applique after surfing etsy for ideas.

i love the internet...

and i love these outfits.

i'm already having sewing machine withdrawals.

i hear pillowcase dresses calling my name.

and here's one more, to include my baby boy...

beginning with november,

i've been appliqueing shirts as a birthday present

for all the kids on jason's side of the family.

this is #4. i forgot to take pics of the others...

it was for ardon's 3rd birthday--

Felt Food

I made the girls some felt food for Christmas this year. A good friend of mine makes it, and so I asked her how to get started. She gave me some great pointers and I was on my way!

**Note**I am a complete novice with a sewing machine. The apron I made was my first "bigger" project...so I'm always a little intimidated at the thought of pulling my machine out, but I always enjoy it sooo much when I do. I think it'll be a good way to pass the time being cooped up this winter!

  Breakfast includes 6 pancakes, 2 eggs, and 2 slices of bacon:

Next up is a small pizza with mushrooms, pepperoni and olives:

Some yummy bow tie pasta and sauce:

Large ravioli and sauce:

And finally, some cheese quesadillas:

To keep them all together and *attempt* to keep them lasting longer,

I used Mod Podge (I puffy <3 it!)  and covered an old oatmeal container

with scrapbook paper:

It was a hit!

As I was blogging this, I enjoyed a meal of 1 pancake, 2 slices of bacon, 2 quesadillas, and some pastas! Yum! ;)

 

My Apron

I love aprons.

I've wanted one forever,
but haven't found one I liked enough to buy...

So I made my own.

It's a reversible half-apron from this tutorial.

I'm so excited!
I want to make more, and I really want a full apron, too...
But I think my girls need one first.

Sew Fun & Our Fourth

Since the 4th fell on a Saturday this year, and it also happened to be Jason's Monday off, we got to spend 3 days in a row together--that hasn't happened in over a year and a half! (He gets every Sunday off and then every other Monday off.) We were pretty stoked!

I wanted to make the kids some shirts for the 4th, so during the week, I decided to take the advice of a friend and lower my standards. Yes, I said lower them--at least on what I consider a clean house. I've had so many projects I've wanted to do, but could never find the time because I felt like I was constantly keeping things picked up or feeding, changing, disciplining, etc...

I asked Sarah to order some shirts from her work, so that I could try my hand at applique. I turned to Etsy for pattern inspiration, and then to my husband to draw the patterns, since I'm not even that great at stick figures.
Syd & Ali's shirts turned out to be way too big, so Sarah suggested that I tie the sides to make them fit. Great idea! I tied the sleeves up with ribbon, too.

Sydney & Ali were sweet little ladies in flowers, ribbon and ties!

And Jaxon was quite the gentleman in a matching tie!

We spent the evening at Austin & Sarah's. Sydney loved it, Ali didn't like the noisy fireworks & Jaxon was deliriously goofy because he was so tired. It was a good time!
